Congratulations to Dr. Jonathan Logan!

We are pleased to share the wonderful news that Dr. Jonathan Logan recently completed his Doctor of Ministry degree through Fuller Theological Seminary. Dr. Logan is a graduate of Phoenix Seminary (MDiv, 2005) and began pastoring in 1980 after a military career in the United States Air Force as a highly decorated Chief Master Sergeant. He is deeply involved in the leadership of his denomination and has served at Phoenix Seminary as Instructor of Pastoral Theology since 2005.

Dr. Brian Arnold, President of Phoenix Seminary, said, "We give Dr. Logan our warmest congratulations on this accomplishment! We are so grateful for his ministry in his church, in the Valley, and to Phoenix Seminary. We especially want to thank his church and Christine for sharing him with us all these years."

Dr. Logan says this about reaching this major milestone:

Dr. Logan and his wife Christine

First, I am elated that I was able to complete the difficult and improbable journey that my wife and I started. I believe this is the most important accomplishment that I have made. Learning to persevere is what enables a person to continue to be successful in the many challenges of life. Persevering was especially difficult for me, due to the many things I was committed to doing. I was a senior pastor, district superintendent, administrative assistant to the Arizona Church of God in Christ (COGIC) bishop, Arizona COGIC Jurisdictional Ordination and Education Board Chairman, part-time Phoenix Seminary instructor and, of course, husband, father to two daughters and four grand-children.

This was a tremendous challenge and I soon realized that I wasn’t going to be able to accomplish it by myself. Consequently, I had to enlist the help of many people to reach my goal. For instance, the Fuller DMin staff were extremely helpful by ensuring that I understood all the seminary’s requirements and they also were a great encouragement to me. I also was blessed to have an outstanding church office staff and quorum of elders that did many day to day tasks that I wasn’t able to do. My family also sacrificed by giving me the time and freedom to spend countless hours completing this degree. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the constant encouragement from the late Jerry Leatherwood to enroll in the DMin program. I probably wouldn’t have started this journey If it wasn’t for his and my wife, Christine, constant motivational talks.

Ultimately, I embarked on this journey because the Lord impressed upon me that this course of study was crucial to my success as a Christian writer. I am also indebted to the Phoenix Seminary faculty who modeled before me the importance of scholarship in the ministry of a pastor. Thanks for all you do to promote the Kingdom of God around the world. Last, I was motivated to complete this degree by the students that attend Phoenix Seminary. I wanted to enhance my ability to provide them with the best instruction possible.

The title of Dr. Logan's thesis was "A Disciple Development Strategic Design for a Mission-Minded Ministry in a Post-Modern Era." Congratulations, Dr. Logan!
